Honoring Our Tradition
Advancing Our Mission
Meeting Our Goals
Committing to Our Future
Honoring Our Tradition
St. Francis Borgia Parish enjoys a rich tradition of religious education.
Our school, built in 1950, has graduated thousands of students over the
years and currently boasts an enrollment of 370 students in grades 4K-8.
Parents participate in many volunteer and fundraising efforts to support
the school’s faith-formation and academic mission. The school also sponsors
and supports many important extracurricular pursuits for its students.
Our Christian Formation program has reached as many as 725 students,
from grades 4K-11, in a single year. A Monday evening Family Program
is offered in addition to a full complement of Wednesday evening classes
on both the north and south campuses.
Summer classes and activities are also offered. Vacation Bible School,
Reach Out Reach In, National Catholic Youth Conference, Justice: Do It,
and other organized events enable our young people to grow spiritually
all year round.
Recognizing the value of faith formation within our community, we thank
and honor those who paved the way for us with their generosity. We also
pledge to continue that mission in Christ so that future generations
might have those same opportunities.
Advancing Our Mission
To continue our mission, we need to replace aging, overcrowded facilities.
Our school lacks adequate space for programs, plays, and presentations.
Three former classrooms no longer meet local building codes. The gym
is too small for many athletic events. The school has no handicap
access, and the building’s wiring does not adequately support today’s
technology needs.
The Christian Formation program also faces space limitations. Class sizes
exceed recommended levels, which challenges teachers and students alike.
Parents need to shuttle their children of different grade levels between
classes held on both the north and south campuses on Wednesdays. Also,
the lack of space has cut into the number of class sessions the Christian
Formation team can offer for various grade levels.
Faith In Our Future aims to help us address and alleviate these various
challenges.
Meeting Our Goals
As we welcome the new Faith In Our Future campaign and its aim
to explore the spirituality of stewardship, we are especially pleased
to contribute what could be the final piece in our efforts to build a
new Education and Activity Center. For several years parishioners have
embraced the concept of bringing single-campus Catholic education to
St. Francis Borgia. With your help, we hope to realize this dream!
To date, the Building Leadership Team (BLT), along with parishioners
Tom Mulcahy and Tom Sheffield, have been hard at work planning for the
new facility. Meeting on a regular basis with Fr. Tom, the BLT is taking
the necessary steps to complete the project.
The most promising development has been the news that we could build
the Education and Activity Center for a lower cost than the initial $12
million estimate. It is within our reach to complete the project for
$8 million, perhaps less. “We think we have an opportunity to save $2
million to $4 million on the project with the current economy,” Mulcahy
said. “But we need to act now. At some point, the costs are going to
increase again, and the project price could go way up. So we are hoping
everyone moves forward and supports this effort.”
The Faith In Our Future campaign is structured to use the largest
portion of the proceeds toward the Education and Activity Center. The
rest will go to provide housing for our new associate pastor and expanding
administrative space, as well as assisting educational needs throughout
the Milwaukee Archdiocese.
Please join us in prayer that the Faith In Our Future campaign
will accomplish what it is meant to do: to demonstrate our confidence
in our Church, our schools, and in the values of Catholic education and
life-long faith formation. Together as a Catholic community we can accomplish
much.
Committing to Our Future
At St. Francis Borgia, we are blessed with a vibrant parish that welcomes
everyone! Our mission statement reflects our liturgy-centered faith,
with Mass being the heart and soul of SFB. With the Holy Spirit as our
guide, we affirm Jesus Christ as the center of our faith. Through the
Church, we are able to practice good stewardship and engage in joyful
outreach, ready to serve all people as the Body of Christ.
Since our parish’s beginning in 1842, St. Francis Borgia has opened doors
for a great many people. It has been the home of major spiritual and
communal events in most of our lives. In our sacramental celebrations
of baptism, first communion, confirmation, reconciliation, marriage,
anointing and funeral Masses, we marked together important moments not
only for us, but for our grandparents, our parents, our children, and
our friends. Most particularly, our celebrations of the Eucharist draw
us together as one people, one body that is nourished by the Body and
Blood of Christ.
By our generous response to God and to each other, we hope that, with
prayerful courage, we will come together to support the Faith In
Our Future campaign for the benefit of our parish and archdiocesan
initiatives.
