Parish Festival
August 13, 2011
Our annual St. Francis Borgia Community Festival is both a fundraiser and a social event, drawing our parishioners and local community together. On Saturday, August 13, there were activities and treats for the children, a pancake breakfast, giant rummage sale, car wash, plant sale, silent auction, bingo, a bake sale, polka music, youth bands, and plenty of food, including rotisserie chicken dinners with corn on the cob. The band "Sweet Tarts" and the raffle drawings for great prizes ended a very enjoyable day. Despite the rainy weather, many people attended the festival and had a great time. Special thanks go to all who helped to make the festival a success.
Parish
Cookouts
Summer 2011
Back by popular demand, parish cookouts were held once a month during the summer after the 6 p.m. Sunday night Mass. People came and enjoyed the food and fellowship. The cookouts were sponsored by our Youth Ministry.
Confirmation
June 2, 2011
On Thursday, June 2nd, Bishop Richard Sklba confirmed 89 of our High School Students. In his Homily Bishop Sklba talked about how the oil of Confirmation seals and strengthens. After being sealed with the oil of Confirmation, may the Holy Spirit give the students strength and wisdom throughout their lives.
Easter Sunday
April 24, 2011
The Easter Triduum continued through all of our Easter Sunday morning Masses, with joyful singing and many alleluias. On Easter morn, Catholics everywhere renewed the vows of their baptismal faith in Christ, crucified and risen from the dead. We were baptized into Christ’s death. And all were sprinkled with new water from the font. These photos are from the 9:00 a.m. Mass at the north church, which was attended by a capacity crowd. Fr. Dan Janasik presided at this joyous liturgy, and beautiful flowers adorned the altar.
Easter Vigil
April 23, 2011
The Easter Vigil marked the holiest night of the year and the climax of the Easter Triduum. The church was beautifully decorated with an amazing display of spring flowers including Easter lilies, hydrangea, tulips, and mums. This Mass included the outdoor blessing of the Easter fire and service of light. The new Easter candle was carried in procession to the sanctuary as a pillar of fire, and all received a small Easter candle to share in the light of Christ. It made for a spectacular display. The choir sang with chimes, bells, and drums which created a wonderful sound throughout the church. After Scripture readings were proclaimed from the Old Testament, we heard the gospel of Christ's resurrection! We welcomed new members to our faith community as we witnessed the Rites of Christian Initiation – Baptism, First Eucharist and Confirmation. It was a special jubilant event for all who attended.
Holy Thursday
April 21, 2011
The North Church was filled to capacity on Holy Thursday, for the Mass of the Lord's Supper, with Father Dan Janasik and Father Tom Wittliff as co-celebrants. This was the beginning of the Easter Triduum. Beautiful and somber music filled the church as we celebrated the Last Supper and the gift of the Eucharist, Jesus washing the apostles' feet, and the institution of the priesthood. The liturgy included the Washing of the Feet by Fr. Dan and Fr. Witliff. The congregation processed downstairs at the conclusion of the liturgy for the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Palm Sunday
April 17, 2011
On Palm Sunday Christians everywhere began the celebration of Holy Week. This was the day Jesus entered Jerusalem to complete his work as our Messiah: to suffer, to die, and to rise again. On this day we received palm branches, and we held them up to be blessed through prayer and the sprinkling of holy water. Children joined the entrance procession, and the congregation participated in the reading of the Passion according to St. Matthew.
Christmas
December 24-25, 2010
There were many Christmas Masses at St. Francis Borgia with special holiday music presentations. The church was beautifully decorated with lighted Christmas trees, wreaths, poinsettias and the nativity scene.

Turkey Trot
November 25, 2010
Father Dan said the weather was just perfect for a run! It was overcast and cool, but not rainy. The second annual Turkey Trot 5K run and 1.5 mile walk on Thanksgiving Day drew 270 total participants - both runners and walkers. The $3,600 raised goes toward the Faith In Our Future campaign, which supports Catholic faith formation and education throughout our archdiocese, and will help to build our new Education and Activity Center.
Clergy Recognition Dinner
November 18, 2010
On November 18, the Knights of Columbus held a Clergy Recognition Dinner at Galioto's Vintage Grilled Restaurant. Fr. Don Hying from St. Francis De Sales Seminary was the guest speaker. Honored for their service at St. Francis Borgia Parish were Fr. Tom Eichenberger and Fr. Dan Janasik. Spaghetti Dinner 2010
November 5, 2010
About 230 people - school families and parish members - attended the Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, Nov. 5. The attendees enjoyed all-you-can-eat spaghetti provided by Galioto's restaurant - truly great food and wonderful support from this SFB School family! A new addition this year was “build your own sundaes” which offered a sweet ending to a great night. The event co-chairs are appreciative of the “fabulous support” from the teen volunteers who helped with everything from serving attendees to manning the children's entertainment rooms. They also express “huge thanks” to the parents who volunteered their time to make sure that this family event was fun for all.
Pet
Blessing
October 4, 2010
"The Blessing of the Pets" was held on Monday, October 4, the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. There were many persons in attendance who brought their cats, dogs, ducks, and turtles. Father Tom Eichenberger said a prayer and blessed the pets, as they are such an important part of many people's lives.
F.U.N.
Golf Outing
September 21, 2010
On September 21, the F.U.N. Committee (Friends Underwriting NewBuilding) held
a golf outing and dinner at The Bog, to raise money for building our new Education
and Activity center. It was a huge success as 82 people attended the event, of
which 64 were golfers. God blessed us with perfect weather, sunny and in the
80s. There were many Silent Auction items that were donated, and there were some
very happy winners! The person with the best golf score, and winner of the flat
screen TV, was Bert Frederiksen. He donated the TV to St. Francis Borgia School.
May
Crowning
May 9, 2010
May is traditionally a month for honoring the Blessed Mother.
So after the 11 a.m. Mass on Mothers’ Day, May 9, recent
First Communicants and parishioners joined Fr. Dan Janasik in
a procession to our shrine to Mary, Mother of the Word. There
a child placed a crown of flowers on the statue depicting the
Christ child in the arms of His mother Mary. Other flowers adorned
the pedestal on this lovely sunny day.
First
Communion
April 2010
“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes
to the Father except through me.” So says Jesus in
the gospel to our girls and boys making their First Holy Communion,
and so says Jesus to all of us who are baptized in his name.
Congratulations to the first communicants, and to their parents
and teachers! Our parish is so proud of these children, and we
thank their parents for bringing them to the altar.
Archbishop
Listecki Visits St. Francis Borgia Parish
April 10, 2010
On Saturday, April 10, Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki
visited St. Francis Borgia parish for the first time. He celebrated
the 5 p.m. Mass, with Fr. Tom Eichenberger and Fr. Dan Janasik
con-celebrating. The Mass was beautiful, with the youth choir,
handbell choir, adult choir, and instrumentalists providing music
and leading us in song. Prayer responses by the congregation
were energetic and faith-filled. A reception was held after Mass
in the church hall, and many parishioners welcomed our new archbishop,
chatting with him, sometimes posing for pictures, and then enjoying
an abundant buffet.
Visit to Uganda
July 27-August 6, 2009
In summer 2009, Fr. Dan Janasik traveled with five parishioners to our twinning parish of St. Paul’s in Mukono, Uganda. They went with a special focus upon the parish schools, but their overall goal was to build the bonds of friendship between St. Paul and St. Francis Borgia parishes. Photos in this section illustrate various aspects of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in Mukono, Uganda.

Fr.
Mike Dineen's 60th Anniversary of Priesthood
May 31, 2009
Fr. Michael Dineen, priest-son of St. Francis Borgia Parish, celebrated his 60th
anniversary of being ordained to the priesthood on May 31 at the 11 a.m. Mass.
The church was at capacity, with many out-of-town visitors in addition to well-wishing
parishioners. The Knights of Columbus provided an honor guard, priest friends
took part in the liturgy, and music was provided by the Bell Choir and the Youth
Choir. During the Offertory, friends and relatives offered praise for Fr. Mike
and his career as a priest. After Mass, the celebration continued with a reception
and luncheon in the church hall. Fr. Mike has been helping us out quite regularly
these past years at morning and weekend Masses, funerals and other liturgical
services. We are blessed to have him celebrate with us.

April 19, 2009
In recognition of Earth Day, SFB youth from the Christian Formation program participated
in a community service project for the Ozaukee-Washington Land Trust. The work
was done at the Cedarburg Environmental Study Area. The main goal of the project
was to clear the property of invasive brush. This activity was primarily a Confirmation
service project which was open to all youth of the parish.
Bishops
Callahan and Ssekamanya at SFB
October 19, 2008
On October 18-19, Bishop Matthias Ssekamanya spoke at all
Masses on behalf of his Diocese of Lugazi in Uganda. At the 9
a.m. Mass on October 19, our own Auxiliary Bishop William Callahan
welcomed Bishop Matthias. Parishioners were very generous in
their response to the request for financial support for the Diocese
of Lugazi. SFB parish has a twinning relationship with St. Paul
the Apostle Parish, which is in the Lugazi Diocese.
Fr.
Mike’s Last Weekend at SFB
June 14-15 , 2008
Parishioners fondly said goodbye and wished Fr. Michael Lightner well as he ended
his three-year assignment at St. Francis Borgia on June 14-15. Receptions were
held after the 5 p.m. Mass on Saturday and after the 9 a.m. Mass on Sunday. There
were also opportunities to greet him after he celebrated the 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Masses. We are grateful for his time with us and the many kinds of service that
he provided not only to the parish but also to the greater Catholic community.
Fr. Mike’s new assignment is as Director of Campus Ministry at the University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Newman Center.

May 31, 2008
A commemorative cemetery ceremony was held on Saturday May 31, 2008 for Thomas
Barrett, who was a casualty in the Civil War and died in 1863 at the age of 16,
one-hundred forty-five years ago. The ceremony was held at St. Francis Borgia
Parish Cemetery, on Pioneer Road in Cedarburg. The ceremony was well attended,
including many descendents of the Barrett family. Special thanks go to Fr. Tom
Eichenberger, Cub Scout Pack #3802 and their leaders, Rose-Harms American Legion
Post #355 from Grafton, drummer Garrett Dawkins, Jennifer Roesch (1860’s
enactor), and Rita Bert and John Enright, who coordinated the event. The tribute
was memorable and deeply moving.
Appreciation
Gift for Fr. Mike from the Weekday Mass Group
May 28, 2008
On Wednesday, May 28, those who regularly attend weekday morning Mass surprised
Fr. Mike Lightner with a gift of a beautiful chalice as a memento of his service
here in Cedarburg. The chalice was purchased with their contributions by Father
Mike's mother while in Medjugorje. Janice Dorn presented it to Fr. Mike before
Mass, and he used it at the consecration during that Mass. The gift is a testament
to the lives he touched during his tenure at SFB.
Bishop
Sklba’s Visit to St. Francis Borgia
May 17-19, 2008
From Saturday, May 17 through Monday, May 19, Bishop Richard J. Sklba was with
us at the parish for a formal, three-day pastoral visit. He has, of course, been
here many, many times before, but never for a whole weekend. Our parish was chosen
for this visit because we are the oldest parish in continuous existence (since
1844) in Ozaukee County. During his vist, Bishop Sklba celebrated Mass with us,
attended receptions and joined us for meals, met with catechists, school teachers,
the human concerns and Uganda twinning committees, parish council, mission trip
participants, weekday Mass participants, and school children. We thank him for
his time, his preaching, his concern, and his pastoral care.
Uganda Visitors
September 24-October 15, 2007
In late September our parish welcomed six visitors from our sister parish, St. Paul the Apostle in Mukono, Uganda -- Fr. Paul Ssebitoogo, Nancy Banana, Tom Kasujja, Dr. Anthony Kkonde, Denis Lule and Dennis Yiga. Their stays with us were from 10 days to three weeks, depending on personal flight arrangements and time spent with others in nearby states. Thank you to all who helped them feel welcome at Mass, at their reception in the parish hall, and the following weekend at the Ministries Fair. And many thanks to the twinning committee and all those who were personally involved in providing hospitality and friendship to our Ugandan friends – including meals, lodging, activities and transportation.
Fr. Al’s 40th Anniversary of Priesthood
October 14, 2007
With much gratitude and warmth for the many years that Fr. Al Veik has been a weekend associate at St. Francis Borgia, parishioners helped Fr. Al celebrate 40 years of priesthood on Sunday, October 14. On that day, with the accompaniment of our adult choir, bell choir and other musicians, Fr. Al concelebrated the 11 a.m. Mass with his brother, Fr. Roger Veik. Afterwards, all were invited to a reception in the church hall for food and fellowship.
Fr. Ed’s 50th Anniversary of Priesthood
September 23, 2007
Parishioners, priests and other friends helped Fr. Ed Wawrzyniakowski celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood at the 11:00 am Mass on September 23, 2007. This was a joyous occasion, as we welcomed him back to St. Francis Borgia parish, where he spent 27 years as pastor before the merger. After the Mass the celebration continued at a reception for Fr. Ed at Circle B in Cedarburg.

First Mass at SFB
June 5, 2005
Parishioners who attended the 11:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, June 5 were pleasantly
surprised that the celebrant was Fr. Michael Lightner, our new associate pastor. The surprise
was that he had joined us at Mass more than two weeks ahead of his start date with the
parish. Led by our Spirit Choir, the congregation sang and prayed with energy and enthusiasm,
thanking God for His blessings and helping Fr. Mike feel welcome in his new parish family.
Sanctuary/New
Organ
Winter-Spring 2005
Our sanctuary and church are beautiful! Click on the photos below to see
the Marianne Huiras Memorial Organ, donated by parishioner Ralph Huiras in memory of his
wife. As part of the sanctuary renovation for the pipe organ installation, there is also
a new altar, ambo (pulpit) and crucifix. The tabernacle has been moved to a 13-foot high
pillared canopy shrine at the west front wall. All of this was completed just in time for
the May 1 Confirmation Mass with Bishop Sklba. The organ couldn’t be used at Mass until
after the 1800 pipes of the organ were voiced (tuned). Our patient waiting was rewarded as
the beautiful sounds of the new organ accompanied our hymns of praise and thanksgiving to
God at the Pentecost Vigil and on Pentecost Sunday, May 14-15.
All

April 10, 2005
Those who attended the 11:00 AM Mass on Sunday, April 10, joined in the high energy singing,
