Additional Information
Lectors proclaim the Scriptures, at our weekend, weekday and holy day liturgies, relating
Christian teachings through the Word of God.
Those participating in the lector ministry should be motivated by spiritual
reasons: the desire to proclaim the Word of God so that people listen and
understand. They must be willing to devote significant preparation time before
each scheduled lector assignment.
Public speaking ability (enunciation, projection, expression), and a willingness
to respond to suggestions for improvement.
All lectors attend orientation (about 2 hours) and participate in two or more individual
coaching sessions.
Youth lectors generally participate in individual coaching
sessions before each lector assignment, with times that fit their personal
schedule. Less coaching may be needed as students gain experience.
Adult lectors are required to participate in 1-2 formation opportunities each calendar year.
The parish provides opportunities for lectors to meet their formation requirements
(e.g., Scripture classes, adult Christian Formation, speaking skill workshops,
etc.).
- Training and formation are as noted above. Formation
opportunities are as short as one hour, or as long as a semester.
Individuals choose how they will meet their requirements.
- Preparation is needed before each lector assignment.
The time varies by individual and by difficulty of readings.
- Adult lector assignments are approximately once a month.
- Youth lector assignments are generally once every 6-8 weeks. The frequency depends
on the student’s wishes.

Coordinator.
