Other Prayer Opportunities Morning Prayer A small group of faithful parishioners gathers at the south church on most weekdays (Monday through Friday) at 7:30 a.m. to pray together. You are invited to join us at any time. Liturgy of the Hours books are provided. These books are an official prayer book for Catholics. The books are full of psalms, short scripture readings, and petitions for each day of the week. Morning Prayer is generally not held on holidays or if there is no 8 a.m. Mass at the south church (for example, on those First Fridays of the month when Mass is held at the north church). Check the calendar to verify whether Morning Prayer is scheduled for any particular day. For more information about the Liturgy of the Hours, see the Messenger newsletter article: Singing the Top 40 from the Official Prayer Book (Fall 2005)
Come each week to be in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. The Holy Eucharist is the mystery of our faith. Jesus said that “faith can move mountains.” When you come before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, you will receive some new, wonderful effects of God’s goodness, mercy, grace and His love. Adore Him. Praise Him. Love Him. Pray silently, pray for others, pray for your own intentions. Make it a family fest. Read more… Adoration is on Mondays, 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the South Church. Rosary devotions are held during the last hour, from 7:00-8:00 p.m.. The rosary has been a treasured Catholic devotion for many centuries. We often recite the rosary to pray for peace and reconciliation, to express penitence, or to pray for an end to the suffereing of those who battle poverty and hunger every day. The rosary can be prayed individually or as a group. At St. Francis Borgia, we pray the rosary regularly at the following times:
We have a group of parishioners who pray for specific prayer requests through the Grace Bohl Memorial Prayer Chain. When a parishioner request is made, one person calls the next one on the prayer chain list. Members of this group have answered God’s call to pray for one another. Scripture says, “At every opportunity, pray in the Spirit, using prayers and petitions of every sort. Pray constantly and attentively for all in the holy company.” (Ephesians 6:18) Our prayer chain members pray as the Spirit leads: short prayers, long ones, on their knees or standing at the sink doing the dishes. Simple words or very formal ones – God hears all prayers. For more information on participating in the prayer chain , or to make a prayer request, contact the parish office.
