Then the children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven
belongs to such as these.” – Matthew 19: 13-14
St. Francis Borgia Parish has lots of babies, toddlers, children, youth and families of all shapes and sizes! We are so blessed to have all this activity in our parish.
55 children were prepared to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Dec. 9 by their parents, Fr. Patrick, Deacon Mark, SFB day school teachers (Mrs. Szpak and Mrs. Zahn) and all of the Christian Formation catechists (Mrs. Bird, Mrs. Plier and Mrs. Przybyla).
On Dec. 17, the children in our Sunday morning K3-K5 classes presented the Christmas Story. “Twinkle, Twinkle Christmas Star” and “Baby Jesus, We Love You” were sung loudly and with spirit.
Our Advent Teaching Mass and the CF Christmas program for Grades 1 through 8 was held on Dec. 20. Our first graders were swishing trees and our second graders “clip-clopping” donkeys.
As we approach 2018, Child Ministry would like to invite children, parents, families and all parishioners to some exciting upcoming events:
Jan. 8: In celebration of the Epiphany, the Three Kings will visit the 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Masses
Jan. 24: Second Annual Faith-A-Thon for grades 4,5 and 6. Parents and interested others are invited to see which grade knows the most about their Catholic faith. This will be done through game formats, such as Catholic Jeopardy, Tic Tac Toe and Taboo.
Feb. 7 : Grades 1-6, their families and extended families will be invited to an intergenerational event. Stay tuned for further details.
New this year: Family “Sunday School”
An opportunity is being offered after the 10 a.m. Mass for our families and our youngest parishioners. There will be light refreshments, prayer, Bible stories and a variety of activities. All families are invited, but programming will be geared toward families with children in grade K 5 and younger.
Our first Family “Sunday School” was held on Nov. 14 and our theme was Thanksgiving. Rosalita Villa, from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, was our special guest and taught us how to use sacred movement in praising and giving thanks to God.
Our next session is Jan. 14 after the 10 a.m. Mass. Please join us in the church hall. Our theme will be Baptism. There is no fee to attend. If you have questions, please contact Chris Crom.
Toddler Corner every Sunday
Our Toddler Corner in our church hall has been up and running for over a year now. Parents and toddlers are invited to the Toddler Corner where parents can watch Mass on the “big screen” while their little ones take a break, play with toys and enjoy a simple snack.
It has been interesting to see that those using the Corner have started building community – meeting and talking with other adults and other families. It would be great to see this ministry grow. If interested, contact Chris Crom.
