Position Description:

Responsible for general maintenance/repairs of assigned facilities (i.e. school, rectory, church, cemetery, etc.), including electrical, plumbing, boilers/HVAC, building, and green space.  Also responsible for some aspects of custodial work.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Complete paper/computer work (e.g. logbooks, order forms, checklists, etc.).
  2. Complete daily rounds/inspections (e.g. turning on lights, unlocking entrances, and laundry).
  3. Cleans classrooms, hallways, washrooms/lavatories, drinking fountains, offices, cafeteria, gym, entrances, etc. on a daily basis by maintaining wood furnishings, polishing, collection & disposal of garbage, and washing windows.
  4. Inspects and cleans walls with graffiti and markings, as needed.
  5. Performs light duty maintenance, as needed (e.g. replacing ballasts, light bulbs, valves, etc.).
  6. Cleans outside buildings and inspects & communicates areas of damage, litter, and/or conditions of general deterioration.
  7. Performs scheduled monthly, semi-annual, and annual custodial duties (i.e. floor scrubbing and waxing, painting, window washing, carpet cleaning, etc.).
  8. Provides set up and cleaning of facilities for activities on property.
  9. Works with volunteers (i.e. cleaning, grounds keeping, etc.) as directed by supervisor.
  10. Maintains building and equipment in state of repair to provide continuous, effective operation.
  11. Performs routine repairs and obtains necessary certification as required.
  12. Purchases supplies/materials for maintenance as needed, with the approval of supervisor.
  13. Refers all supplier contacts to supervisor.
  14. Verifies receipt and condition of supplies/materials when delivered.
  15. Attends seminars and meetings as requested by supervisor.
  16. Performs yardwork, e.g., mowing/edging, raking, weeding, pruning, & flower beds.
  17. Maintains cleanliness and safety of parish grounds and facilities following recommendations from Catholic Mutual, e.g., chemical requirements such as MSDS.
  18. Performs snow removal and salts sidewalks, as needed.
  19. Other miscellaneous job tasks as assigned


  1. High school diploma or equivalent required.
  2. Bachelor’s or Associate degree in facility management, building maintenance, etc. preferred.
  3. Professional certification and valid license of operation e.g., HVAC, (high/low) pressure boiler preferred.
  4. Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  5. Excellent organizational, problem solving, trouble shooting and diagnostic skill.
  6. Professional working attitude and collaborative approach.
  7. Strong written and verbal communication.
  8. Understanding and application of mechanical, electrical, and plumping systems.
  9. Manage time efficiently and adjust work schedule as needs and situations arise.  May include occasional evening or weekend work.
  10. Ability to take direction and work with minimum supervision.
  11. Self-motivated.
  12. Attentive to details.
  13. Comply with OSHA Safety and health rules.


This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position. A full benefit package is available.
