On Friday, Jan. 3 at the North Church, Fr. Benedict La Volpe, OFM Conv., will offer a special program for all elementary school children. He will teach our children about the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist – the Sacred Body and Precious Blood.
St. Francis Borgia School children will be attending. All home-schooled children, children in other schools, and parents of all grade school children are invited to attend. Students in Grades 2-4 will attend from 1:30 – 2:10 p.m. Those in Grades 5-8 will attend from 2:20 – 3 p.m.
On the weekend of Jan. 4-5, everyone will have the opportunity to hear from Fr. Benedict when he preaches at the weekend Masses. He will also give a presentation to the Sunday night Christian Formation students on Jan. 5 during their class time.
Fr. Benedict Maria La Volpe was born in 1971 in Australia and entered the Conventual Franciscan Order in 1995. After completing his theological studies in Melbourne, he went to study in Rome where he wrote his thesis on The Contemplative Dimension of the Conventual Franciscan Order. In July 2005, he was ordained to the priesthood.
Fr. Benedict served in the Archdiocese of Melbourne offering parish missions, retreats and conferences. Additionally, he was the Spiritual Director for the seminarians. In 2018, he was elected Provincial Councilor at the St. Bonaventure Province in Chicago. He became Rector of the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe at Marytown and was elected Guardian of the Our Lady of Fatima Friary. He also serves as a Spiritual Director to seminarians and priests.
