Thursday, Aug. 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day. Every day, in the United States alone, nearly 150 people will die from drug overdoses. The U.S. accounts for approximately one-quarter of the estimated number of drug related deaths worldwide, including overdose deaths, which continue to rise. Mostly driven by opioids, overdose deaths in the United States more than tripled during the period from 1999-2015, growing from 16,849 to 52,404 annually.

St. Francis Borgia now has a Substance Addiction Ministry (SAM) to reach out to anyone who is struggling or has a loved one struggling with addiction. Members of SAM will be in the gathering space the weekend of Aug. 26-27 to share information about various issues, including their upcoming programs in September and October.
