Saturday, Apr. 27 from 8 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.at the St. Joseph Center, 1501 S. Layton Blvd. (Greenfield Ave. at 27th St.) in Milwaukee
In keeping with their congregation’s commitment to both artistic creativity and caring for the Earth, the School Sisters of St. Francis will be hosting an art and spiritual workshop focusing on the beauty of Creation, particularly Milwaukee’s rivers, woodlands, lakes, and wildlife.
During the two-hour workshop, titled “The Nature of Our Lives,” participants will reflect on ways to bring their spirituality in line with a commitment to be caretakers of the natural world, starting in our own neighborhoods. The presentation will draw from Laudato Si’, as well as writings by author Annie Dillard, John Muir (a.k.a. “Father of the National Parks”), and others. Participants will have a chance to create a piece of art using easy-to-control, water-soluble color pencils. All are encouraged to bring along pictures or photos from their personal collections that might help inspire their creativity.
The class fee is $20. Advance registration is required to ensure enough materials for everyone, so please sign up by Thursday, Apr. 18. Contact the School Sisters of St. Francis at 414-385-5272 for more information or to register.
