Christian Formation (Grades 1-5)

The children in grades 1-5 meet on Wednesday evenings from 6-7:15p.m.  Their formation is modeled after the pattern of the early church and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.  “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of the bread and the prayers” (Acts 2:42).  Formation is not only learning the teachings Jesus has entrusted to the Church, but it is also encountering Jesus in one another (fellowship), in the sacraments (breaking of the bread), and in prayer.  To this end we encourage our catechists to nurture a love of Christ in all of these areas.  We want the children to spend time with the Lord not only in his teachings, but by getting to know their peers, making Sunday Mass the most important part of their week, and visiting Him often in the tabernacle or monstrance as well as making Confession a regular part of their lives.

We currently use the Alive in Christ series by Our Sunday Visitor. Both the student’s text and catechist’s manual are found to be in conformity with the Catechism of the Catholic Church by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee Use of the Catechism.
