Visit to Uganda 2001

July 3-10, 2001

Five St. Francis Borgia parishioners visited Uganda in 2001 to begin the process of establishing relationships with our brothers and sisters at St. Paul the Apostle parish in Mukono, Uganda. Their primary purpose was to meet with and learn from the people of St. Paul so that our Cedarburg parish might determine how to build a rewarding, mutually productive relationship with our twin community. Guided by their Ugandan hosts, the travelers rode more than 1,000 km. down dusty, rutted roads to visit subparishes, schools, and hospitals. Everywhere they went, they were greeted by joyous singing and dancing, enthusiastic gestures of friendship, and generous gifts. The constant outpouring of love and welcome left the visitors emotionally overwhelmed. The way their hosts witnessed their faith, their love for one another, and the joy that was evident in their lives despite their country’s great need, were vivid reminders that Christ lives among them, and that God welcomes us with open arms to walk with them in this twinning commitment.
