The Archdiocese of Milwaukee recognizes April 29 – May 5 as Safe Environment Awareness Week. Each year in the month of April, which is recognized around the country as child abuse prevention month, we dedicate a week to elevating the general awareness of the Church’s efforts to keep our children safe.
We want people to know that we are committed to maintaining safe environments in our parishes and schools through adult child abuse prevention training, criminal background checks for all clergy, volunteers working with minors, and employees, safety training for children in each grade level, and mandatory reporting requirements.
Did you know… Criminal Background Checks are conducted on every priest, deacon, parish director, employee and volunteer working with minors in active ministry in parishes and schools in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Did you know… In 2018 in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, over 200 Safe Environment Education Sessions were conducted, over 6,800 criminal background checks were conducted on clergy, employees, and volunteers, and over 50,000 children were trained in Safe Environment topics.
Did you know… No priest with a substantiated allegation of sexual abuse of a minor can or will ever serve as a priest in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
Did you know… The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has a Victim Assistance Coordinator that has specialized training in assisting victims of sexual abuse to navigate through the process of reporting abuse and receiving counseling services. The Victim Assistance Coordinator can be reached at 414-758-2232.
