Who: Any parish member of St. Francis Borgia
What: Help our inner city ministry deliver items that are stored in our grey donation shed
Where: Delivering to the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary, House of Peace, the Milwaukee Rescue Mission and St. Vincent De Paul.
Why: Currently we have five volunteers but are looking for a few more to help us out as needed. If you are interested in joining us in this most rewarding and needed charitable experience, please contact the parish office for details.
Help others by donating eyeglasses (prescription, sunglasses and readers) that you no longer want or need. The Lions Club cleans and repairs the used eyewear, which is then distributed to people who can’t afford to buy their own.
Place your eyeglasses donations in the designated bucket in the Inner City Ministry shed located on the North Church campus — on the east end of the parking lot (Covered Bridge Road side). The shed is open 24/7 for your convenience.
Note that the Inner City Ministry shed is also the drop-off site for clothing and toiletries donations.
St. Francis Borgia has ongoing collections for clothing and toiletry items as described below. Volunteers from our parish Inner City Ministry regularly deliver your donations to Milwaukee for those in need.
We have a drop-off site here on the North Church campus for your clothing and toiletries donations. The Inner City Ministry shed is located on the Covered Bridge Road (east) side of the parking lot. It is open 24/7 for your convenience. Please don’t bring your items into church.
Do you have gently-used clothing that you’d like to share with shelters in Milwaukee’s inner city? Please pack your donated clothing in bags labeled for men, women or children, and drop them off at the Inner City Ministry Shed. (See “Drop-Off Site” information above.) They will be delivered to Repairers of the Breach, House of Peace, and McCannon Brown Homeless Sanctuary in Milwaukee – wherever there is need.
Our parish has an ongoing collection for toiletry items to be shared with inner city residents who seek assistance at the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary (MBHS) in Milwaukee. This shelter provides services in the Amani neighborhood of Milwaukee, especially within the 53206 ZIP code, which is the most impoverished neighborhood in Milwaukee.
Small or medium sizes are preferred (NOT samples/motel sizes and no giant “warehouse” sizes). Please, no open packages. Needs include:
- Bar soap
- Shampoo/conditioner (NOT samples/motel sizes)
- Toothbrushes (individually packaged, or no more than 2-3 per package)
- Toothpaste, dental floss
- Alcohol-free mouthwash
- Wide-tooth combs, African American hair products
- Vaseline, hand and body lotions
- Hand sanitizer
- Band-Aids, antiseptic cream
- Lip balm / Chapstick
- Cotton swabs / Q-tips
- Disposable razors
- Nail clippers
- Female sanitary products
- Baby diapers (all sizes), baby wipes
Be sure your toiletries bag or box is labeled “MBHS” so that the items go to McCannon Brown Homeless Sanctuary. Drop them off at the Inner City Ministry Shed. (See “Drop-off Site” above for where to take your items.)
Periodically, the parish publicizes more specific Inner City Ministry needs, focusing on the most urgent needs for a particular time. These focused solicitations will be listed separately on the Volunteer page.
Nearly every aspect of the parish, from prayer and worship through outreach, has a volunteer aspect. Consider helping, whether for a one-time event or an ongoing need. Check the list on this page and the weekly bulletin for near-term opportunities where you can help lend time or talent. You can also visit our Outreach, Liturgical Ministries, or Family Life & Hospitality pages to learn about how you can get involved in the parish.
