The name of our youth group is ARK (Awesome Religious Kids). Our primary role
as a youth group is to organize activities for all of the young people of high
school age at Saint Francis Borgia parish. This includes
service activities, getting together with friends and going on fun
trips. Share your opinions on what is happening for
young people in our parish community. If you hear about cool things that your
friends are doing at their parishes, this is your opportunity to have them happen
here. All high schoolers and their friends are invited to the service and social activities planned by the group. See the ARK
Schedule of High School Events.
The youth Leadership Team meets twice per month. High school parish members are encouraged to join the leadership team. We also need adult support. Please consider sharing your time in making a difference during the formative years of young people. For details and contact information, see the ARK Youth Group Volunteer Flyer.
Jesus himself modeled service for us. As members of the Body of Christ,
and in His name, all those anticipating involvement in the parish Confirmation
preparation program will be called to service in the areas of YOUTH, FAMILY,
PARISH, and the WIDER COMMUNITY.
To enter into the parish Confirmation preparation program,
each
person is required to provide 40 hours of service in these four
areas. This service program
is
designed
for grades
6-10. As a suggested guideline, participants could provide hours of service
according to the following outline:
6/7th Grade – 10 hours of service to the FAMILY
8th Grade – 10 hours of service to the YOUTH
9th Grade – 10 hours of service to the PARISH
10th Grade –10 hours of service to the WIDER COMMUNITY
The Service
Program Outline explains the purpose of the program and
lists a range of opportunities for fulfilling these service requirements.
Service hours can be filled out on the Service Record Form.
The Director of Youth Ministry regularly publicizes volunteer opportunities,
some tied to specific dates and some ongoing, that will help young
people earn their service hours in the various service categories
referred to above. Watch for volunteer opportunities to be
posted in the bulletin and on
the "Volunteer/Share" page.
Several retreat experiences are available for members of St. Francis
Borgia within the youth ministry program. Age appropriate retreats
are available for students in Grades 8 through 11. Parents, young adults,
and high school seniors are particularly invited to participate as
leaders for a fulfilling role within these experiences. See
the details
and permission slips for the 2011-2012 St. Francis Borgia retreat program.
The SFB School gym is open to high school parish members and their friends most
Saturday evenings during the school year. See the Open
Gym Flyer. Adult supervision is needed. For details and contact information, see the Open Gym Chaperones Volunteer Flyer.
The Archdiocese of Milwaukee sponsors parish-based sports leagues for Catholic youth in high school. Players must be parish members in grade 9-12 who participate in Christian Formation programs or Catholic high school education. Volleyball and basketball teams are formed in the fall of each year. The volleyball teams are co-ed and the season usually begins in late October with season-ending tournaments in December. Basketball teams are formed for boys and girls and the season usually begins in January with tournaments ending in March. Adults are needed as coaches and coordinators. Volleyball sign up ends October 5th, 2011. Basketball sign-up ends November 5th, 2011. For contact information to sign up, see the CYM Sports Volunteer Flyer.
Monthly Friday night activities are planned during
the school year for youth in grades 6, 7 and 8. See the Activity
Night Flyer. For additional details and permission slips, see:
The Director of Youth Ministry will from time to time post communications that
invite the youth of St. Francis Borgia to participate in activities and events
that call them to celebrate, explore, or put into practice an important facet
of their Catholic Christian faith. A growing interest for many teens is participation
in summer service trips. Details will be posted below for opportunities as
they become available.
Mission Trip - July 15-21, 2012
The summer is a great time to expose young people to the rewarding benefits of service and outreach. Our summer mission trip location will be Waterloo, Iowa July 15-21, 2012. The trip is organized by Group Mission Trips with a focus on spiritual growth, safety, faith-building activities and meaningful service such as home repair projects. Several fundraising and community building activities are planned as part of the preparation for the summer trip. For more information, see the Mission Trip packet, which includes registration material and schedule information.
Reach Out
Reach In (RORI) - July 15-20, 2012
RORI is a summer youth service experience sponsored by the
Office of Catechesis and Youth Ministry of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
This week-long camp for high school students provides service at locations
throughout the Archdiocese as well as an opportunity to learn about Catholic
social teachings. The camp is open to those who are ages 15-18 and entering
10th grade or higher. RORI Too is a camp for those who have participated
in RORI previously or in similar summer-service experiences. Space is limited, so register early. For more information, see the RORI registration packet, which includes registration material and information.
Justice
Do It
In the fall, our parish joins with other Ozaukee County Catholic parishes
to involve youth in a service experience, to introduce youth to Catholic
social teaching and to develop ongoing relationships with service organizations
in our area. Youth in grades 6-8 are invited to participate in the
program, and youth in grades 9-11 are invited to develop their leadership
skills as small-group leaders. Adult supervision and participation
is also requested.
National
Catholic Youth Conference (NCYC) - November 17-19, 2011
Registration will soon begin for NCYC, a gathering of 25,000 Catholic teens from
across the country. The conference will be held in Indianapolis, IN and a delegation
of close to 400 teens from the Archdiocese of Milwaukee will join in the event.
High school teens who are energetic about our Catholic faith and willing to share
this experience with the parish community are especially invited to participate.
