Graveside Ceremony for Civil War Casualty

May 31, 2008

A commemorative cemetery ceremony was held on Saturday May 31, 2008 for Thomas Barrett, who was a casualty in the Civil War and died in 1863 at the age of 16, one-hundred forty-five years ago. The ceremony was held at St. Francis Borgia Parish Cemetery, on Pioneer Road in Cedarburg. The ceremony was well attended, including many descendants of the Barrett family. Special thanks go to Fr. Tom Eichenberger, Cub Scout Pack #3802 and their leaders, Rose-Harms American Legion Post #355 from Grafton, drummer Garrett Dawkins, Jennifer Roesch (1860’s enactor), and Rita Bert and John Enright, who coordinated the event. The tribute was memorable and deeply moving.
