Sacramental Preparation

For unbaptized children asking for Baptism after the first day of Second Grade (September 1):

  • The child will receive Baptism, Confirmation & Eucharist at the Easter Vigil after at least one full year of Formation before receiving the Sacraments.
  • A child may not begin formation in September and be initiated at the Easter Vigil later that school year.

For baptized, non-Catholic children asking to become Catholic:

  • The children are prepared for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion according to the normal parish process.
  • This process includes at least one year of remote preparation before beginning immediate preparation.

If your child is in Third, Fourth, or Fifth Grade and would like to prepare for First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion, please contact the Child Formation team.

If your child is in Sixth through Twelfth Grade and would like to prepare for Baptism, First Reconciliation, and First Holy Communion, please contact the Youth Formation team.

First Reconciliation

First Reconciliation is ordinarily in Second Grade.  All Parents attend a parent informational meeting in late fall.  Children enrolled in St. Francis Borgia Christian Formation use the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd approach.  St. Francis Borgia school children are prepared by their teachers and also receive select Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) presentations from the parish.

In addition to CGS and classroom teachings, all children participate in four meditations in the four weeks leading up to First Reconciliation.  Two sessions are held in the evenings, allowing parents to attend, and two are during regular formation.

First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion is ordinarily celebrated in Second Grade.   Children enrolled in St. Francis Borgia Christian Formation use the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd approach.  St. Francis Borgia school children are prepared by their teachers and also receive select Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) presentations from the parish.

In addition to CGS and classroom teaching, all children, along with one parent, attend a First Holy Communion Retreat.  Second graders are also invited to lead May Crowning and the Corpus Christi procession.
