On behalf of St. Francis Borgia Parish, our Human Concerns committee makes donations to various organizations and causes that are working to be the “hands and heart of Jesus.” This phrase summarizes the criteria used to help determine our parish donations.
Heartfelt gratitude to those who regularly support the Human Concerns committee with your donations via contributions envelopes or electronic funds transfer (EFT). The committee meets regularly (generally every other month) to review requests and make allocations. One of the recent disbursements is going to Catholic Relief Services, in support of humanitarian efforts, such as the hunger crisis in Africa.
Joan Rosenhauer, Executive VP of US Operations for Catholic Relief Services, writes: “As you may have seen in the media, the hunger crisis in Africa is growing worse with 23 million people on the brink of starvation because of sustained drought compounded by violence and insecurity.
“As a key partner with Catholic Relief Services, we want to keep you informed about this slow-onset but large-scale disaster. CRS is on the ground responding to this crisis on behalf of the Catholic community in the United States. We are providing emergency food, water and cash grants for the most vulnerable people, including those who have been displaced from their homes.”
