Matthew and the Old Testament: An Advent Overview

Advent begins soon – Nov. 27. It is not only a time of waiting and preparing to welcome Christ into our lives in a new way, but Advent is also a season that marks the beginning of a new liturgical year. We say goodbye to Luke and hello to Matthew.

Matthew writes a unique gospel as he tries to tell Jesus’ story to Jewish-Christians. He relies heavily on the Old Testament – reaching back to the Old Testament some 150 times in his writings.

This Advent season, our Adult Bible Study will spend a couple of weeks looking at Matthew’s Gospel and the connections to the Old Testament. There will be a special focus on the weekday and weekend readings during Advent.

One session will be held on Tuesday evenings from Nov. 29 through Dec. 13. This group will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. in the library at the Education & Activity Center.

A second session, with a repeat of the material presented on Tuesday, will meet on Thursday mornings from Dec. 1 –15. They will gather from 10-11:30 a.m. in the church hall.

Registration is available for these sessions by visiting the Adult Formation page, or by contacting Tracy at 262-377-1070, ext. 250 or by email.
